Industrial Vacuum Pumps

Industrial vacuum pumps are used in a wide variety of industries and applications, such as offshore, fishing, meat, dairy, and industrial.

Wherever a controlled environment is critical, industrial vacuum pumps are a necessity. This includes sensitive situations such as lab work or medical procedures, but also in rough offshore seawater projects and industries operating in potentially explosive environments.

Industrial vacuum pumps remove air out of an enclosed area and prevent it from re-entering that space. Establishing a vacuum is accomplished by applying pressure or suction. Some applications require both in the same environment. We stock industrial vacuum systems in every category. Our staff will discuss your specific job and help you find the system that best fits your needs.

Industrial vacuum pumps can be wet or dry, referring to whether they use liquid lubrication. Wet pumps require frequent servicing and monitoring, and can impede your operations. Becker also specializes in oil-less pumps, which are a great option for food processing, pharmaceuticals, and laboratory uses.

Regenerative Blowers are another vacuum product by Becker. Regenerative Blowers are used primarily in environmental or chemical processes. They can also be used in lifting and packaging. We find these blowers in industries that need to remove smoke and dirt from the air or in sewage extraction. Many municipal utilities use regenerative blowers.

Sampson produces liquid ring vacuum pumps, direct drive transmission pumps, and belt driven pumps. These pumps are used in fishing, agriculture, offshore, and trucking industries.

Can I rebuild vacuum pumps?

Yes. Anyone with mechanical abilities in your organization should be able to rebuild when the parts are connected together. The problem you will often run into is that many pumps require special tools and techniques from disassembly and assembly. The other issue we have discovered is that most manufacturers do not provide detailed repair and instruction manuals for their pumps. Having access to a trained technician is your best solution when your pumps are not performing correctly.

What is the right type of vacuum pump?

In most cases, the rotary vane pump is the most versatile of all vacuum pumps. They provide the most consistent pressure over time and can be purchased in either a single or double stage. Rotary vane pumps are sturdy, but it is important to maintain adequate oil levels. This prevents overheating the system.

What size vacuum pump do I need?

How big is your vacuum tank and what is your application? Are you working on level surfaces or in mountains or hills? Elevation of your operation can also affect the type of vacuum you need. How long will your pump need to run? Some applications will run for 15-20 while others will run for hours at a time.

How is vacuum measured?

If you are familiar with barometric pressure, you understand the measurement principles of a vacuum. One standard atmosphere at sea level will support a column of mercury at 29.92” high. Vacuums often use linear measure and microns. Linear measure is expressed in mm Hg. 760mm is equal to 29.92” atmospheric pressure. A micron is a smaller unit of measure because vacuums generate pressure less than standard atmosphere. 760,000 microns is equal to 760mm Hg and equal to 29.92”. Scientific notation is used when measuring below 1 micron.

Do RPMs matter for vacuum pumps?

Yes. Make sure you run the the pumps at the correct RPM according to manufacturer guidelines. Speeds will vary between pump sizes and models, but most are designed to hold RPMs between 1100 and 1300.  We can help you determine the proper RPM for your application.

Our industrial vacuum products include:

We are proud distributors of Becker & Sampson products.

Becker has been a manufacturer of industrial vacuum pumps since 1885. Their specialty product is an oil-less Rotary Vane Vacuum Pump. Oil-less pumps provide constant quiet pressure with minimal maintenance. Rotary Vane pumps are ideal for environments where both pressure and vacuums are needed. Vane pumps work with a series of vanes mounted with a rotor. Centrifugal force is generated which creates the vacuum. During operation, the vanes will slide in and out providing consistent vacuum or pressure without the pulsating effect you find in other pumps.

Our customers using rotary vane pumps are found in:

  • Paper and Plastic Packaging
  • Food Processing and Packaging
  • Medical and Surgical
  • Environmental Applications and Cleanup
