Air Compressor Service

No matter your industry, replacing a compressor can be costly and is usually not necessary with proper repair. Air compressor service is one of our specialties and we’ve been doing it for decades.

Have your systems seen unexplained drops in pressure? Are strange sounds coming from your compressor? Do you have water in your air lines? Has oil started to pool around the base of your systems? It may be time for expert service and advice before an emergency strikes. However, we do offer 24-hour emergency service repair if it is indeed an emergency situation.

What are the most common air compressor service problems?

1. Compressor Capacity Reduction

Many compressors operate continuously, and over time air capacity or output can become reduced. When we see a reduction in capacity it usually indicates valve leakage somewhere in the system. Sometimes it can be due to incorrect settings on the compressor. The auto on and off are set too close together.

2. Oil Detected in Compressor Air

Oil droplets can be detected in the output air. This is due to an oil separator not working correctly forcing oil into the air receiver. There could be too much lubrication in the system, or the auto drain is not working correctly.

3. Excessive Vibration or Noise

A noisy compressor due to vibration is usually the result of poor installation or an uneven surface base. Other reasons for increased vibration are loose pulleys or belts; lack of oil in the crankcase; the pistons may not be functioning properly; or loose bolts throughout the system.

4. Overheating

Overheating may be detected from excessive heat when in proximity of the compressor system. Also, the air being generated from the system could be warmer than expected. Overheating is usually caused by dirt or contaminants in the system. Any clogging of the system forces the compressor to work hard than designed. Overheating is dangerous and can permanently damage the compressor. Damage in the head gasket as well as valve leaking can also cause overheating.

5. Discolored Oil in the Crankcase

During inspections we often will see discolored oil in the crankcase. The oil can almost appear milky in color. The reasons are mostly due to water leakage within the system.

6. Unexpected Shutdown

Sometimes compressor will shut down outside of their normal shutdown time. The cause of most shutdowns is caused by valve failures. The valve spring is under enormous pressure and under constant movement. If the spring quality is low, failures can happen frequently.

What is an air compressor energy survey?

Compressed air accounts for 10% of all electrical consumption. Savings inside of your compressed air system will have a significant impact to your business cash flow.

The first step in a survey is to locate any leaks in the system. Even a small leak can reduce capacity and force the system to use more energy than necessary.

Maintenance issues are examined. We will provide a regular program of maintenance to keep the system running smoothly and efficiently.

An analysis of the actual requirements of the system is part of the survey. We often find businesses using larger compressor systems than they need. This is wasted energy that doesn’t translate to business profits.

Let us help you use your compressors more efficiently. We can create a cost effective plan to extend the life span and operation of your systems.
